Typhoon Yagi has caused severe damage to coastal provinces such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, and Hanoi, and has been causing widespread heavy rain, flash floods, and inundation in the northern mountainous regions, resulting in significant casualties and property losses.
To promptly share the burdens of the affected people, the Vietnam Red Cross has urgently deployed emergency relief activities and called for community support to help people overcome difficulties. Immediately after the typhoon, the Vietnam Red Cross has initiated initial emergency relief, supporting over 5,700 households, equivalent to nearly 23,000 people affected by Typhoon Yagi and subsequent floods in 10 provinces and cities, with a total value of 5.5 billion VND.
Specific actions of the National Society include:
● Coordinating with local forces to organize the evacuation and ensure the safety of people in high-risk areas. Implementing early actions such as assisting people in securing houses, raising belongings…
● Emergency relief: Providing essential goods, family kits, cash assistance, home repair kits, emergency relief kits, supplying clean water, and communicating behavior change on water, sanitation, and hygiene in emergency situations…
● Recovery support: Assisting families in repairing houses, restoring livelihoods, and stabilizing life.
With the aim of calling for support to assist affected people, the Vietnam Red Cross has launched the campaign “Joining hands for the people in the North to overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi”, calling for donations on online platforms and directly receiving donations from people both domestically and internationally.
