On the morning of 30 October 2026, in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Sy Truong, Vice President of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society (VNRC), received and held a meeting with a delegation from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Padang City, led by Mr. Zulhardi Z. Latif, Chairman of the Padang City Red Cross, and accompanied by 21 other delegates.

At the meeting, Vice President Nguyen Sy Truong warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for its visit and interest in exchanging experience with the VNRC. He emphasized that the longstanding traditional friendship between Viet Nam and Indonesia provides a solid foundation for humanitarian organizations in the two countries to strengthen exchanges, cooperation and experience-sharing. As both countries are frequently affected by natural disasters, their Red Cross Societies share common priorities in strengthening organizational capacity, disaster preparedness and response, and community-based humanitarian assistance.

Both sides exchanged practical experiences in disaster relief and humanitarian assistance; voluntary blood donation mobilization and organization; training and capacity-building for staff and volunteers; building safe and resilient communities; and implementing early action initiatives. Particular attention was given to approaches to mobilizing community participation, promoting the role of volunteers, and strengthening community-level preparedness and response to natural disasters.

Sharing updates on the VNRC’s development, Vice President Nguyen Sy Truong noted that 2026 marks the 80th anniversary of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society (23 November 1946 – 23 November 2026). Looking ahead, the Society will continue to innovate its operational approaches, accelerate digital transformation, enhance the professionalism of its staff and volunteers, and strengthen community resilience to disasters and emergencies.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for the Padang City Red Cross and the Viet Nam Red Cross Society to enhance mutual understanding, share practical models and experiences in humanitarian work, and explore opportunities for future cooperation in areas of common interest, thereby contributing to stronger solidarity and cooperation among members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
