
Hanoi, January 2026 – Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long has signed Decision No. 2841/QD-TTg on the consolidation of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, reaffirming the Government’s strong commitment to ensuring a safe and sufficient blood supply for medical treatment and emergency care nationwide.
Under the decision, Mdm. Dao Hong Lan, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Health, has been appointed Head of the National Steering Committee.
The Standing Vice Head of the Committee is Mdm. Do Thi Thu Thao, President of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society. Other Vice Heads include Mr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, and Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and President of the Viet Nam Youth Association.
The Steering Committee brings together representatives from a wide range of ministries, mass organisations and professional agencies, including the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Mass Mobilisation, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour, the Viet Nam Red Cross Society, the Viet Nam Women’s Union, the Viet Nam National Union of Students, the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
According to the decision, the National Steering Committee is responsible for developing plans and directing the implementation of voluntary blood donation campaigns to meet the needs of healthcare facilities across the country. The National Steering Committee will also propose and contribute to the formulation of policies related to voluntary blood donation.
Key tasks include organising nationwide advocacy and communication activities to encourage public participation in voluntary blood donation; coordinating national and regional blood donation events; reviewing and sharing good practices; updating information and data on blood donation; and monitoring and supervising the implementation of assigned targets and tasks.
In addition, the National Steering Committee will carry out emulation, commendation and recognition activities for individuals and organisations with outstanding achievements in voluntary blood donation, while honouring exemplary blood donors who make meaningful contributions to saving lives.
The consolidation of the National Steering Committee is expected to further enhance inter-sectoral coordination, strengthen social mobilisation efforts, and promote the humanitarian values of voluntary blood donation, contributing to improved healthcare services and community well-being in Viet Nam.
