Mdm. Do Thi Thu Thao assumes the position of President of Viet Nam Red Cross Society for the 11th tenure

On the afternoon of 18 October 2025 in Hanoi, Viet Nam Red Cross Society convened an extraordinary Conference of the Executive Committee and the Standing Committee of the 11th tenure to review, discuss, and elect additional personnel to the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee, and the position of President of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society for the 11th tenure (2022 - 2027).

Attending the Conference were Mr. Nguyen Phi Long, Alternate Member of Party Central Committee and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Viet Nam Fatherland Front and Central Mass Organizations; leaders of Viet Nam Women’s Union Central Committee; leaders of departments, agencies, and Party bodies at the central level; central ministries and sectors; Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee; together with members of Standing Committee and the Executive Committee of Viet Nam Red Cross Society.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, Vice President and Secretary-General of Viet Nam Red Cross Society, stated that for more than seven months, the Society had been without a President. The consolidation of key leadership positions is not only an urgent need in terms of organizational structure and personnel work, but also a practical requirement to ensure effective, consistent and stable leadership and direction throughout the Society’s system at this crucial time. It is essential to further promote the noble humanitarian mandate entrusted to the Society by the Party, the State and the people—one that requires a strong, united and cohesive leadership team with strategic vision, political integrity, and compassionate hearts.

All members of the Executive Committee present at the meeting unanimously elected Mdm. Do Thi Thu Thao, Secretary of the Party Committee of Viet Nam Red Cross Society for the 2025–2030 tenure, to join the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee, and to assume the position of President of Viet Nam Red Cross Society.

In her remarks upon assuming the position, Mdm. Do Thi Thu Thao expressed her honor, gratitude, and profound awareness of the great responsibility entrusted to her—not only to the organization and generations of predecessors, but also to the millions of compassionate hearts across the country. She emphasized that in a time when the nation continues to develop yet frequently faces natural disasters and calamities, the spirit of solidarity, compassion, and community responsibility becomes even more precious.

The newly elected President of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society affirmed her commitment to working alongside the Executive Committee to successfully implement the Resolution of the 11th National Congress, striving toward building a professional, autonomous, and sustainable Viet Nam Red Cross Society by 2030, with a vision to 2045. 

She pledged to further advance humanitarian movements, strengthen governance capacity, ensure transparency, expand international cooperation, and proactively engage in global humanitarian assistance—with the spirit that “Viet Nam is not only a recipient, but also a giver of compassion.” She added: “As someone new to the Society, I promise to devote my utmost effort, to live and work with full faith, love, and responsibility, joining the great Red Cross family to keep the flame of Vietnamese humanity burning bright, so that no one is left behind. When we work with compassion, we receive compassion in return; when we act with our hearts, we touch the hearts of others”.

Mdm. Do Thi Thu Thao, born on 18 November 1975, holds a PhD in Political Economy and a Master’s degree in Public Management (Sociology). She has completed the advanced-level Political Theory program and holds the rank of Senior Expert in State Administration.

Congratulating the newly elected President, Mdm. Do Thi Thu Thao, Vice President and Secretary-General Nguyen Hai Anh emphasized that today’s election results reflect the unity, cohesion, and trust of the Executive Committee in Mdm. Thu Thao – an official of strong political will, extensive experience, and profound humanitarian commitment. He noted that this is a significant milestone that creates new momentum for the entire Viet Nam Red Cross system to continue upholding its humanitarian tradition and effectively fulfilling its assigned tasks.

He expressed his confidence that with her firm political integrity, extensive professional experience, compassionate heart, and wholehearted dedication, Mdm. Do Thi Thu Thao will, together with the Standing Board of Vietnam Red Cross HQs, lead the entire Viet Nam Red Cross system in unity, innovation, and strong development, successfully fulfilling the noble humanitarian mission entrusted by the Party, the State, and the People.

Previously, on 16 October 2025, the Party Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front and the Central Mass Organizations held a conference to announce personnel decisions of the Party Committee of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society for the 2025–2030 tenue. The decisions included relieving Mdm. Do Thi Thu Thao—Member of the Executive Committee of the Party Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front and Central Mass Organizations, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Viet Nam Women’s Union Central Committee, and Standing Vice President of the Viet Nam Women’s Union—from her membership in the Executive Committee and Standing Committee, as well as from her position as Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Viet Nam Women’s Union Central Committee for the 2025–2030 tenue. She was then assigned and appointed to join the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee, and to assume the position of Secretary of the Party Committee of Viet Nam Red Cross Society for the 2025–2030 tenue.
