10 outstanding highlights in 2018 of the Vietnam Red Cross.

1. General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong was assigned by the Politburo to be the Honorary President of the Vietnam Red Cross.

2. For the first time, the Prime Minister signed the approval of the Charter of the Vietnam Red Cross for the 2017-2022 term and issued the Prime Ministers Directive 18 / CT-TTg on “Improving the effectiveness of humanitarian work and red cross activities in the new situation”.

3. For the first time, the Party Central Committees Secretariat allowed the Vietnam Red Cross to organize the Humanitarian Month in 5/2018. The launching ceremony of “Humanitarian Month” was held in Hanoi and in many provinces and cities. Total mobilization value in the “Humanitarian Month” of the whole Association reached over VND 244 billion, assisting 626,000 people.

4. The program “Power of Humanity 2018” was broadcast live on VTV1 with the participation of the Late President of the State, Honorary President of Vietnam Red Cross Tran Dai Quang. The goal of the resource mobilization program for “The Tet for the Poor and the Agent Orange Victims”, in the spring 2018. The Association mobilized and supported 2.72 million Tet gifts worth over 1,220. billion VND for people in flooded areas and poor people on the occasion of Tet.

5. The 5th Red Cross Volunteer and Youth Camp with the participation of 560 delegates who are volunteers, Red Cross youth in the country and international delegates. At the camp, the core Red Cross Volunteer Network  was launched. For the first time to organize a series of activities to respond to the International Day of Volunteers 05 December.

6. Humanitarian diplomatic activities were promoted with 27 exit delegations with 47 turns, 43 entry delegations with 184 turns of people. First time to launch the Strategic Cooperation Framework with the American Red Cross. Cooperation with the Chinese Red Cross is comprehensively developed in-depth.

7. The first conference of humanitarian activities promotion was organized in collaboration with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations. At the Conference, 12 coordination programs were signed and 13 stakeholders registered to support and commit to accompany with the Red Cross. The total value of support reaches over VND 180 billion.

  1. Summarizing 10 years of the Campaign “Tet for the poor and victims of Agent Orange” (2009-2018), the Campaign has supported over 16.9 million turns of people, on average each Chapter mobilized and donated 269,400 gifts (3.3 times higher than the previous 10-year period), with a value of VND 6,128 billion (11 times more than the 10-year period). Summarizing 10 years of voluntary blood donation movement, from 2008 to the end of 2017, the whole country mobilized and received over 9.2 million blood units, converted to nearly 10.2 blood units. In the past 10 years, the Steering Committee at all levels has organized 477,266 propaganda campaigns, mobilized with 15,482,986 communication products and 11,401,885 turns of participants. In the period of 2008-2017, there were 155,867 individuals, families and collectives of 63 provinces, cities and voluntary blood donation clubs were honored and rewarded for the outstanding achievements.

9. For the first time, cooperation in training with Japanese partners and launching the Training and retraining program on knowledge and skills of caring for the older people (Kaigo training). For the first time, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs approved the Nursing Training Program implemented by the Vietnam Red Cross. The Ministry of Health for the first time signed a decision to issue the Vietnam Red Cross Societys first aid training program and materials.

10. The organization of the International Relief Delegation promptly assists the Lao people in the country affected by the dam breakdown in Attapeu province. Supporting victims of Typhoon Damrey in Central and Central Highlands provinces worth VND 86 billion from UN and other international organizations.
