On 01/11/2018, in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, the Vietnam Red Cross organized a workshop to draw lessons on the collection of research information on gender in natural disasters.

Vietnam is one of the countries most affected by natural disasters and climate change. Its consequences affect the lives of people, especially women and girls. This is also part of a study being conducted in Southeast Asia and is considered the joint initiative of the IFRC and the ASEAN Commission on Disaster Management. On this basis, the Vietnam Red Cross in collaboration with the Institute of Labor and Social Sciences with technical assistance and resources of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to conduct gender assessment in disaster in Vietnam.
The assessment was conducted in August-September this year in Giong Trom and Ba Tri districts of Ben Tre, Tuy Phuoc and Phu My districts of Binh Dinh province. Objectives of the evaluation: Understand how security and safety issues affect women, men, girls and how they differ in the aftermath of a disaster/disaster; Understand how government agencies, local governments and humanitarian organizations set priorities and solutions to address security and safety issues for vulnerable communities.
This workshop shared the initial report on gender assessment in disaster risk in Viet Nam for assessment teams from two provinces to supplement and complete the report. A complete assessment report will contribute to the Viet Nam Red Crosss development of gender-related disasters in the future.
