Sharing the results and lessons learned during the implementation of disaster management in urban areas, integrate disaster prevention and control into the local socio-economic development plan. This is one of the main contents discussed by participants at the workshop “Sharing lessons learned and policy recommendations on urban disaster risk management, integrating disaster prevention and control into the socio-economic development plan “

In particular, participants will also be shared about policy recommendations and directions in the coming time to contribute to the adjustment of the Community-Based Disaster Risk Management Framework under Decision 1002 of Prime Minister in 2009; Adjustment of the Circular 05 dated 06/06/2016 of the Ministry of Planning and Investment guiding the mainstreaming of natural disaster prevention and control into the socio-economic development plan. The workshop is one activity celebrating International Day for Disaster Reduction (13/10). The content being discussed is in line with the theme of International Day for Disaster Reduction in 2018, which is “Minimizing Economic Losses from Disasters”.

Hội thảo được tổ chức bởi Liên minh: Hội Chữ thập đỏ Mỹ, Hội Chữ thập đỏ Việt Nam và các tổ chức: Cứu trợ Trẻ em, Plan International tại Việt Nam, Catholic Relief Service tại Việt Nam và Help Age, vào sáng nay (11/10) tại Hà Nội, với sự chủ trì của Hội Chữ thập đỏ Việt Nam, Hội Chữ thập đỏ Mỹ tại Việt Nam, Tổng Cục phòng, chống thiên tai – Bộ Nông nghiệp và Phát triển nông thôn, Bộ Kế hoạch và Đầu tư.

The workshop was organized by the Consortium of American Red Cross, Vietnam Red Cross and Save the Children, Plan International in Vietnam, Catholic Relief Service in Vietnam and Help Age in Hanoi on 11 October, chaired by the Vietnam Red Cross, the American Red Cross in Vietnam, Disaster Management Authority – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Attending the workshop were representatives from the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, and Search and Rescue; Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; Department of Planning and Investment, Department of Finance, Red Cross and Head of the Peoples Committee at cities, wards of Ha Tinh, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai; local and international NGOs in Vietnam.

The workshop is part of the project “Building Resilience to Natural Hazards in Central Vietnam” funded by US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ha Tinh, Quang Tri , Quang Nam and Quang Ngai from 2015 to 2018 (through 02 project phases).

With a budget of $ 4,038,550 by the end of June,

673,952 beneficiaries

61 communes /wards benefit

2,717 local government officials were trained on prevention, mitigation and disaster risk management

176 training courses to improve the capacity of local government officials and people with 9,939 participants

57 community-based disaster risk assessments with 15,035 participants

2,545 students received training on disaster preparedness knowledge

19 community disaster response exercises have been held in localities
