Proud to celebrate 72nd anniversary of Vietnam Red Cross (23/11/1946-23/11/2018)

This morning (November 22nd), Vietnam Red Cross, Central Office celebrated the 72nd anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Red Cross (23/11/1946-23/ 11/2018) and met with contact liaison board of the former staff association.

This date was back 72 years ago - November 23,1946, at the first Congress of the Red Cross in Thanh Tam village, Van Dinh town, Ung Hoa district, Ha Tay (now Ha Noi), Vietnam Red Cross was officially established, The late State President Ho Chi Minh is the first honorary President of the organisation and the Honorary President of the organisation for 23 years from the foundation date until his death then Dr. Vu Dinh Tung was elected president. This is the milestone marking the birth of the Viet Nam Red Cross, an organization dedicated to the humanitarian work of the people, for the well-being of the people. The establishment of Vietnam Red Cross has met the demand of contributing to the health care and life of the people, promptly serving the nationwide resistance war against the French colonialists, initially laying the foundation for the process of Vietnam's international integration into the humanitarian work.

Since then, on November 23, 1946, the history of Vietnam Red Cross has been a milestone marking the birth of a mass humanitarian society founded by the late President Ho Chi Minh, the first honorary president. This is a great honor for the staff, members, youth and volunteers of Vietnam Red Cross, which none of all other organizations have.

Over the past 72 years, Vietnam Red Cross has been with the Government and the people for two periods of national defense. Each period, Vietnam Red Cross has to face the difficulties, challenges drastically, but all have overcome and achieved good achievements.

At the beginning of the speech, President Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu expressed her sympathy, shared with the difficulties of the people in the central provinces (Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen) are suffering heavy consequences due to long lasting rain and flood. More than ever, humanitarian workers, especially officials and members in localities are wading, shoulder to shoulder, sharing with the difficulties and losses of people to fullfil the noble humanitarian mission of a humanitarian organization trusted by the Party, State and people.

President of Vietnam Red Cross Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu affirmed: "72 years - 10 congresses - with the noble rewards of the Party and State: 2 orders of Ho Chi Minh (1998, 2011), First Class Independence Order (1988), First Class Labor Medal (2005), Second Class Labor Order (1971, 2016), we have the right to pride ourselves on a humanitarian organization. To inherit and promote the tradition of humanity, to constantly grow up, to affirm its core role, to act as a bridge and a coordinating role in the cause of humanity of the country. both for the poor and the vulnerable in society. "

In the coming time, Vietnam Red Cross is facing the opportunities and challenges, emphasizing the focus of the organisation in the coming time, the President asked the organisation at different levels, including staff of the organisation at HQs should thoroughly grasp the implementation of the Resolution of the 10th National Congress of the Vietnam Red Cross, the term of 2017-2022; Instruction No. 18 / CT-TTg dated 09/7/2018 of the Prime Minister on "Improving the effectiveness of humanitarian work and Red Cross activities in the new situation"; Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW on "Some issues of continuing the renovation, reorganization of the apparatus of the political system, streamlining, effective and efficient operation", constantly improving the capacity , affirming its position, step by step proceeding to change the mode of operation from passive to active model of a public non-profit organisation operating in the humanitarian work and integrating deeply into the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent.

Celebrating the foundation of Vietnam Red Cross this year is an opportunity for every member of the Red Cross, Red Cross volunteers, youth and volunteers, to celebrate the 72 year tradition of the organisation. It is an opportunity for each humanitarian to show the role and responsibility in inheriting and promoting the nation's tradition of compassion, ready to be present in the most difficult places, in the same place with the poor, the weak in society, the noble humanitarian mission that the Party and State have entrusted.
