Hau Giang: Bringing practical and long-term benefits to Xa Phien commune

In 2 days (February 23-24), Hau Giang Red Cross Chapter organized the construction of 02 rural traffic bridges in Hamlet 2 and 04 classrooms for Xa Phien Primary School, in Hamlet 8, Xa Phien Commune, Long My district. The total cost of implementing the project is over 1.5 billion VND, which is supported by Dong Tam Charity Association.

These two bridges are built with a total length of 50m, 3m wide with a total budget of VND 400,000,000 (sponsored by Huyndai Ngoc An Trading Service Joint Stock Company). With the original design, these two bridges intersect at the crossroads, bridges with a capacity of 5 tons, 16-seat vehicles can safely pass.

According to the villagers of hamlet 2, these two bridges are the main traffic axis connecting inter-hamlet roads. The bridge was built over 20 years ago by the local authorities and people. Now, two bridges have been severely degraded, a part of the bridge has been sunk, making the surface rough, there are many damaged places causing danger to people.

Xa Phien commune is a remote commune of Long My district, the material and spiritual life of people here is still limited, the conditions for economic development face many difficulties. The population in Xa Phien commune accounts for 21% of the Khmer ethnic people, so the policy of caring for ethnic minorities has always been of top concern. The bridges built up will be a condition to help people trade, access to progressive cultural lives.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Ms. Vu Thi Thu Thuy - General Director of Hyundai Ngoc An Trading Joint Stock Company said: “Each year, our company always spends a part of its profits and associates its partners to build bridges and roads to create conditions for people to exchange and trade, improve their lives ”.

On this occasion, Hau Giang Red Cross Chapter continued to start construction of the school of Xa Phien 1 Primary School funded by the Delivering Better Lives Foundation (DBL-Australia). Construction work includes 04 classrooms, 02 toilets, school grounds, fences. The total cost of implementing the project is over 1.1 billion VND, of which the Australian Organization funded 859 million VND, the local  contribution is 245.5 million VND.

Mr. Chau Sinh, Principal of the school said: “At present, Xa Phien 1 Primary School has 02 classrooms, so it can only teach 04 classes, from grade 1 to grade 4, if the school is built with new classrooms, it will creating favorable conditions for grade 5 students to continue their schooling because at the moment they have to go to the main school or go to another school where the traveling conditions are very difficult, it takes more than 1 hour to ride go to school".

It is known that in 2018 Dong Tam Charity Association connected mobilization for Long My district to build 05 bridges. In the beginning of the new year 2019, Xa Phien commune (Long My) continues to receive funding to build 02 bridges and 04 classrooms worth over VND 1.5 billion.

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Mai, representative of Dong Tam Charity Association said: “In the coming time, Dong Tam Charity Asociation will continue to build Xeo Dia Bridge (Xa Phien Commune) with a length of 45m, total estimated budget of VND 315 million.
